Multiple medal success for Tesco wines

13 May 2015

Great news from the Tesco Wine Team – more than 100 of our own-label wines have been awarded a medal by the International Wine Challenge.

98% of the wines selected to enter the awards received a medal – the best conversion rate ever for Tesco wines in an international competition.

Amongst the 132 medals, Tesco wines were awarded:

  • 5 Gold Medals:
    • Tesco finest* Amontillado
    • Tesco finest* Vintage Grand Cru Champagne
    • Tesco finest* Dessert Semillon
    • Tesco finest* Chablis
    • Tesco finest* Sancerre
  • 21 Silver Medals
  • 45 Bronze Medals
  • 61 Commended Medals

Medals are useful to highlight the quality credentials of wines in the Tesco range and some really fantastic value wines were amongst the winners. Popular Italian sparkler Bella Cucina Prosecco (£5.49) was awarded a Silver medal and customer favourite Tesco Cava Brut (£4.99) received a Bronze medal.

Spanish stars from the ‘Simply’ range – Simply Garnacha (£4.79) and Simply Garnacha Rosé (£4.69) both received Bronze medals as did Italy’s Simply Soave Classico (£4.79).  All three wines would make a great line-up for any summer barbeques or bank holiday weekend celebrations.

“The wine team is delighted with these latest results.  Winning medals from prestigious bodies such as the IWC is testament to the hard work everyone puts in to create a range we can be proud of.  These medals are also a useful communication tool which enables us to clearly communicate to our customers the great quality of the wines available to them at Tesco.” Gavin Warburton (Category Director for Beer, Wine & Spirits)
